- SecondMuse Named Finalist at the 2022 Reuters Responsible Business Awards
The Reuters Responsible Business Awards, a global benchmark for sustainable business, named SecondMuse a finalist in its “Sustainable Development Goal Pioneer” category. Judges recognized The Incubation Network for its impact in reducing ocean plastic pollution and tackling waste mismanagement across Southeast Asia. To date, the program has diverted 41,672 metric tonnes of plastic waste away from the ocean by supporting 276 unique startups and helping them to raise $1.5 million to scale their solutions. This effort directly aligns with Sustainable Development Goal #14 “Life Below Water,” which pertains to conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas and marine resources. We look forward to the in-person ceremony in London on October 13, where we will celebrate our success and find out who the winners are! - Our Co-CEO Takes the Stage at Key Clinton Global Initiative Event
Carrie Freeman recently spoke on a panel at the Clinton Global Initiative’s September meeting about “The Food Crisis and the Threat of Destabilization.” Together with expert panelists, she discussed the importance of developing a deeper understanding of local community needs. “Too many times, people bring ideas and tactics that are not grounded in the reality of the local communities and food systems they aim to help,” she said. Her comments reflect our belief in the importance of working with local, regional, and national actors to assess the needs of each community and then develop collaborative plans for equitable, accessible, nutritious, and regenerative food systems.
- Our Global Head of Circularity at 7th International Marine Debris Conference (#7IMDC)
Last week, our Global Head of Circularity, Simon Baldwin, spoke at the #7IMDC where he shared insights from our work in plastics over the past few years, particularly around ground-up initiatives within local markets. In another session, Klaus Oberbauer, Program Manager of our Ocean Plastic Prevention Accelerator program, shared how our network-building approach has been able to improve plastic waste management and circular systems in Indonesia.
