This year's Earth Day, Simon Baldwin, our Senior Vice President for Asia Pacific, shares insights to the pivotal role women play in addressing the plastic waste crisis in South and Southeast Asia with Nikkei Asia and Zach Coleman.

Entrenched gender norms and a $68 billion credit gap hinder the potential of women-owned MSMEs to leverage their expertise, scale their innovative solutions, and transform the plastic waste ecosystem.

“In the journey toward a plastic-free vision, a great cornerstone of progress would be an improved ability to consider needs and impacts at the nexus of gender, climate change and financial inclusion,” shared Simon.

He further notes that while access to financial is crucial, governments, investors and industry players must work together to connect women-owned MSMEs with the market to accelerate the adoption of innovative solutions.

The more we can help women access resources and decision-making power, the brighter our sustainable future will look.
